Wake up!!! It’s time for camp!! Students arrived early this morning to drop off their belongings and anxiously wait to hop on the buses. Students got in their final hugs and kisses before a week away from home. Soon, it was time to get in line and take attendance. Once all the luggage was safely packed on to the moving truck, it was time to load up the students!
After a one hour journey through the mountains of East County, we arrived at beautiful Camp Cuyamaca! Students hopped off the buses and started to meet their new counselors and friends for the week. Students participated in a variety of welcoming activities and then it was time to explore their new home for the week. Wolf Canyon students were placed into two cabins – South Wind Cabin for the boys and West Wind Cabin for the girls. After picking their bunkbeds and laying out their bedding, it was time for lunch!
Our first meal consisted of fried chicken, chips, veggies, and chocolate milk! Students also get unlimited salad and fruit. Yummy way to start camp!
After lunch, students had more meetings to discuss rules and practice their first fire drill. After all the important information was covered, it was time for their first hike! Students went on a hike for about an hour to get familiar with the land and layout of camp. After students returned from their first hike, it was time for recess! For recess, students may choose from a variety of activities including soccer, kickball, basketball, GAGA, playing board games, or just relaxing with their friends. After all these afternoon activities, students were getting hungry so it was time for dinner!
Our first dinner tonight consisted of turkey tacos with all the fixings. Dessert tonight was Rice Krispies Treats!
After dinner, students went back to their cabins to finish first day orientation information and cabin teambuilding activities. As the sun started to set, students bundled up on their jackets for tonight’s night activity, CAMPFIRE! Funny stories, interviews, and plenty of songs were sung as the day faded into night.
As night started to settle in, all campers went back to the cabins for night cabin activities before lights out.
Whew, what a first day. We miss you and hope you have a great night. Make sure to come back tomorrow for more updates!
