Sixth Grade 2025 Mock Newbery Wish List

Have you ever seen this seal on the front cover of a book? It is called the Newbery Award and this award is given to “… the most distinguished American children’s book of the previous year.” The winner is chosen by committees of the Association for Library Service to Children. Committee members consists of distinguished adults who read, discuss, and select a winner each year. Knowing this, the students have often wondered why children and students have never been part of the selection process. Hence, in 2015 the birth of Wolf Canyon’s Mock Newbery was born!
Wolf Canyon sixth graders participate in an annual Mock Newbery. Eight titles from a contenders list are selected. Students read and discuss each title, and in the end, the students select a winner based on a student-generated rubric using the John Newbery criteria as a guide. Each year, our students learn to love reading and express and contribute their opinions about what they read.
It is a very expensive endeavor, but we always seem to find the funds to make sure our students do not miss out. We fundraise, create a wish list on Amazon, and ask parents and PTA for support. With lack of resources this year, we are reaching out to you for financial support. Thank you in advance for your continued support!
*When checking out, you may have the book shipped directly to the coordinator of the wish list, Ms. Robbins. Thank you!
