Our final full day at camp! Where has the week gone? Time sure does fly by when you’re having fun!!
Students woke up this morning and headed to breakfast before our biggest hike day. For breakfast today, students were served cereal, fruit and pancakes!
After breakfast, we headed down to our cabins to do another teacher check in. Students shared out all the fun and memorable events throughout the week and completed the final pages of their workbook. Everyone agreed we missed home but also to get the most of our last day at camp.
Then, it was time to go back to their cabins and prepare for our day-long hike. Sunscreen was applied, hats were worn, proper shoes were put on, and plenty of water bottles were filled to the brim. Today’s hike was going to be a great adventure.
In a fun surprise, students were joined by our principal Mr. Pollack and assistant principal Mrs. Orozco! Mr. Pollack and Mrs. Orozco took time from their busy schedule to spend the day with our students before heading back down to Chula Vista. It was a much needed home connection and students enjoyed hanging out and eating breakfast with our administrators! Thank you, Mr. Pollack and Mrs. Orozco!!!!
At base camp, groups went over ground rules in addition to splitting up job duties. Students were not returning to camp for lunch, so all food, snacks, and drinks had to be carried. Students took turns throughout the day carrying all the needed supplies for our journey. Once every group was ready, it was off and running to beat the daytime sunshine. Groups headed in all directions of Cuyamaca State Park exploring every corner looking for animals, plants, and the diversity hidden in our mountains. Due to the rain and snow from winter, many streams had to be crossed and many waterfalls were spotted throughout the day. Lunch outdoors consisted of handmade sandwiches with all the fixings and a variety of snacks during rest stops. After six hours, it was time to head back to camp.
After getting back to camp, students were given a recess break before their final camp shower!
After showering, it was our final dinner. Tonight, students were served a ‘night picnic’! We had hot dogs, chips, watermelon, and corn on the cob! So yummy and fun!
Our final night activity was an all-camp talent show! Students from all schools with a unique talent have been practicing all week for tonight’s grand finale. The talent show had a variety of acts from musical, singing, magic, and hilarious skits. What a great way to end our week.
After the show, students headed back to their cabins for final cabin activities to reflect on the week and spend a final evening with old and new friends. So many memories to take home and cherish forever.
A final lights-out before heading home tomorrow. This is the final post before we see you tomorrow. We hope you’ve enjoyed following our adventures. We can see the thousands of views this past week from home and countries far away. We would like to send our love and we look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.
For tomorrow, we expect to reach Wolf Canyon around 11:30am – depending on traffic.
Once students arrive back to school, we ask for parents to meet us in the Multipurpose Room. We will escort our students back inside first. Once we have verified each parent’s identification, you may take your child home for the weekend. If your child has medication, please also show proper identification so we can release the medication to you. Thank you so much and we can’t wait to see you tomorrow!
